PEMBROKE, NC—UNC Pembroke’s Cody Crotts pitched eight innings of scoreless ball to lead the Braves to a 10-0 shutout over local rival St. Andrews on Tuesday night at Cox Field. With the win, Pembroke improves to 29-19, while the Knights fall to 20-28.

The Braves plated three runs in both the third and fourth to take a 6-0 lead with five innings to play.  In the third, Jason Morales and Tripp Lockhart had RBI-doubles, while Jeff Adams plated a run on RBI-single giving the Braves a 3-0 lead. One inning later, UNCP scored three more on a two-run triple by Morales and a sac-fly off the bat of Barrett Otto.

Pembroke pushed their advantage to 8-0 with two runs in the fifth thanks to an error by St. Andrews that allowed Adams to score from second and a sac-fly to right by Justin Bowman.

The Knights managed to load the bases in the top of the sixth, but UNCP starting pitcher Cody Crotts struck out Brad Smith to end the threat to keep the shutout in tact.

The Braves scored for the fourth consecutive inning as Adams picked up his second RBI of the game on a ground ball to first that allowed Otto to trot home from third giving UNCP a commanding 9-0 lead.

In the bottom of the eighth, Aaron Perkins connected for a solo homer to left giving UNCP a 10-0 advantage.  With one out and a 2-1 count, Perkins blasted the pitch deep into the Pembroke night.

Crotts (2-1) earned the win as he pitched eight innings of shutout ball. He scattered ten hits and did not allow a walk, while fanning five. St. Andrews’ BJ Horne (3-4) took the loss after surrendering three runs in 2.1 innings of work.

SAPC collected 10 hits including multi-hits by Matt Harkness, Greg Wrape, and Anthony Mehling. Harkness had the Knights only extra-base hit with a double.

On deck for the Knights will be the 2006 CVAC Baseball Tournament in Wilson, NC. St. Andrews, seeded No. 8, will face No. 1 seed Barton College on Friday at 1:00 p.m. in Fleming Stadium.
