LAURINBURG, NC—Four Armstrong Atlantic State pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout and senior Miguel Donate launched a two-run home run as the No. 17-ranked Pirates blanked St. Andrews, 7-0, on Tuesday afternoon.
The Pirates (25-4-1) broke open a scoreless game in the bottom of the fourth inning as Donate delivered a two-run blast to left center and PBC Player of the Week Brad Bohannon collected an RBI single, with the fourth run scoring on an SAPC outfield error.
AASU scored three more times in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Marc Noble and a two-run single by Josh Dallas, providing more than enough offense for the Pirate pitching staff.
Junior Jeremy Horst (3-0) hurled five innings of three-hit ball, striking out five to pick up the victory, while relievers Austin Ducey, Vyt Rivers and David Whitfield combined for four innings of hitless relief to preserve the victory.
