SAPC baseball drops CVAC opener against league favorite

GAFFNEY, SC—The St. Andrews Presbyterian College baseball team opened up Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference play with an 11-1 loss against host Limestone College, who was picked first in the 2006 CVAC Preseason Coaches Poll, on Tuesday at Bob Prevatte Field.

The Saints improved to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the CVAC while the Knights fell to 3-4 and 0-1.

Limestone scored six unearned runs on eight SAPC errors.

The Knights only run came in the fourth after senior Brad Smith (Riegelwood, NC) led off with a single and eventually scored on an LC error. Smith finished with two hits.

Saints pitcher Kevin Pucetas (Spartanburg, SC) picked up his second win of the season with eight strikeouts. Junior Tyler Midgett (Summerville, SC) had four RBIs and a home run, while senior Matt Reel (Marion, NC), sophomore Paul Pesca (Punta Gorda, FL), junior Joey Asis (Gastonia, NC), and senior Rob Bouknight (Leesville, SC) each had one RBI.

Junior Knights starter Ryan Curley (Emmaus, PA) dropped to 1-2 on the season while freshman Ryan Kirkman (Liberty, NC) had four strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

The two teams finish up the three-game series with a doubleheader on Wednesday with first pitch slated for 1:00 p.m.
