St. Andrews Education Department representatives travel
to NCATE Regional Conference
Three faculty members of the St. Andrews Presbyterian College Education Department traveled to the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) Regional Conference held in Atlanta, Ga., April 7 – 8. Professor Sylvia Pusser, Elementary Education Coordinator; Tony Cates, Physical Education Coordinator; and Saundra Jones, Education Department Chair, traveled to the event. “The conference was very informative,” Cates said. “There were many sessions about accreditation for the continuous improvement of educator preparation.” Among the sessions were Nuts and Bolts of the NCATE Visit, How Do We Turn Teacher Education Upside Down?, Effectively Using NCATE’s Accreditation Information Management System, and Insights into the Continuous Improvement Option. According to the NCATE website, it is an organization designed to “help establish high quality teacher, specialist and administrator preparation. Through a process of professional accreditation of schools, colleges and departments of education, NCATE works to make a difference in the quality of teaching, teachers, school specialists and administrators.” |
