"Who is the best teacher you ever had?" This seemingly simple question was the basis for the November Faculty Brownbag sponsored by DeTamble Library. "I like stories," said Associate Professor of Biology John Knesel, facilitator for the session. "By telling each other stories, we learn about mystery, we learn about magic, in the academic setting." Knesel posed his question to a group of fellow professors and staff members, who shared the name and title of their selections ranging from high school biology teachers, to graduate school mentors, to elementary school teachers. Laughter and tears filled the space as the group shared the relationships that formed with these educators. "Listening to these stories shows themes of support and caring in the classroom through a broad spectrum of topics," said Knesel. "It puts it back on us as educators to remember what it is about, being at the front of the classroom." |
