On Saturday, Sept. 20, several members of the Alumni Council joined with current students and staff members to provide a variety of volunteer service to the campus as part of the Alumni Council Service Day at St. Andrews.
The council members, having spent the morning in the fall meeting, ate lunch before joining the student and staff members at five predetermined locations, two indoor and three outdoor.
Climate control benefited the group who joined Tom Waage in DeTamble Library to identify photos for the archives related to Flora Macdonald College and Presbyterian Junior College. The second indoor location was Farrago where alumni and students joined together to do some general cleanup and painting.
One of the largest groups of alumni gathered in front of William Henry Belk College Center. Together they scraped chipped paint from the railings and repainted them to provide a fresh look.
A small contingent of weeders focused on the planters on the Belk Patio while another group made their way to the front of the James L. Morgan Liberal Arts Building to weed and trim the hedges.
Having begun their work just after 1 p.m., the last of the alumni left the worksites after 4 p.m. with much convincing that the work was done for the day.
Plans are being made for a second Alumni Council Service Day in conjunction with the February meeting. |
