SAU Hunter Seat finishes second at home show Saturday
Laurinburg, NC - The St. Andrews University Hunter Seat team finished second at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) competition Saturday at the Equestrian Center.
The team from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill earned first place with 43 points, putting them ahead of the SAU score of 38. East Carolina University was third with 32 points.
“I am proud of the team today, everyone pulled together and helped each other with positive attitudes,” said rider Cami Glaff who had first and second place finishes in her divisions. “I had great support from my teammates in my classes today.”
Also contributing first place finishes were Regina Barasch, Kathryn Owens, Kelsey Kocher, Danielle Eads, Emily McBee, Kirsten Farley, Brianna Harrison, Nikki Napoleone, Abigail Skillman, Janie Mabe Malott and Julie Griffin.
“I have been working hard to improve my position all semester and it was recognized and rewarded today,” said Skillman.
For Farley, the strong showing had an additional implication.
“I am now 4 points away from qualifying for Regionals,” said Farley. “That is a good feeling.”
Barasch, Kimberly O’Keefe, Danaye Mokma, Briley Brandon, Taylor Carroll and Rachael Dockery had second place finishes.
Sloan Stuntz had a third place finish, as did Kocher. Reba Merritt added a fourth place finish in her first competition.
Marli Puryear and Mary Thomson had fifth place finishes with Samantha Taylor and Samantha Garriques contributing sixth place finishes.
The team competes again Nov. 23 at East Carolina University.
