Laurinburg, N.C. - For the first time in school history, St. Andrews University’s Hunter Seat Team won the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 4 Championship on Saturday.

The St. Andrews Team of Katie Hansen, Sami Cram, Kali Cram, Cami Glaff, Madison Edwards and Jake Hobson amassed 46 points to best Goucher College’s 42 points.

“The top three teams battled throughout the day with the lead changing several times,” said Equestrian Program Director Peggy McElveen. “It all came down t the final class of the day which had veteran team rider Kali Cram representing St. Andrews. When Kali was announced as the winner, the rafters of the arena shook with the excitement. St. Andrews had won their first Zone Championship!”

In addition to team competition, individuals were also competing for the opportunity to ride at Nationals.

Kim Graves, already assured a place at IHSA Nationals by winning the regional Cacchione Cup, will compete in Open Flat and Open Fences at the event.

Shiloh Kozlowski and Sami Cram will be competing at Nationals for the third year in in a row. Kozlowski will compete in the Walk, Trot class while Cram will be competing in Novice Fences.

“With the Western Team winning the National Semi-Finals and the Hunter Seat Team winning the Zone Finals, St. Andrews is the only school in the country to have accomplished this amazing feat this season,” said McElveen.

As both teams prepare for the Nationals, St. Andrews will hold an in-house competition Sunday at the Equestrian Center on Hasty Road. The event is free and open to the public.
