Gravity Hill invites community submissions

Laurinburg, N.C. – Gravity Hill, the student literary journal at St. Andrews, is pleased to invite the Laurinburg community to submit work for possible publication in its ninth edition.

Gravity Hill is a student-run literary journal that is published annually in the spring,” said Dr. Ted Wojtasik, faculty advisor for the publication. “The journal was created to showcase work by St. Andrews students, faculty, alumni, staff, and friends of the University. Three years ago, we opened it up to submissions by the Scotland County community and were able to publish several pieces from this new base of authors. We are looking forward to adding even more to the collection this year.”

Cat Stumberg is the student editor for the 2013 edition.

“As St. Andrews is the host campus for the Scotland Early College High School (SEarCH), we would like to extend a special invitation to all the students in the program to submit a piece for consideration,” Wojtasik said.

The editorial board welcomes poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, one-act plays, photographs, and artwork. The deadline for all materials is December 3, 2012.

Gravity Hill is named after the local legend of the car accident at the intersection of Stewartsville Cemetery and Old Maxton Roads where a woman and her child were killed by an 18-wheeler and where, today, if you stop your car and put it in neutral, the two ghosts will push your car up the hill out of harm’s way.

All work can be submitted electronically at stumbergcn@sapc.edu or mailed to Cat Stumberg, Gravity Hill, St. Andrews University, 1700 Dogwood Mile, Laurinburg, NC 28352.

Previous copies of Gravity Hill can be purchased at the St. Andrews Press Office for $5.00.
