Showing Under the Stars fun show at SAU helps prep for Nationals
Laurinburg, N.C. – Approximately 55 riders competed at the St. Andrews University Showing Under the Stars Friday evening.
“We had a lot of support for the show coming from parents, professors, staff members, friends and the local community,” said event manager Heather Wile. “Riders rode in classes showing everything from Beginning Walk-Trot to Open over fences, Dressage Equitation to Western Reining and Horsemanship.”
Riders were divided into teams with alumni serving as team captains. The alumni, who also rode in the final class of the evening, were Angela Gaskins, Jessica Bitz-Richards, Rob Jacobs, Mariann Stark and Liz Dulski representing class of '11, along with Rachel Buckler Class of '10, Heather Wile Class of '09, and Kelly Meehan Class of '08.
Western coach Carla Wennburg judged the Dressage Equitation Class and provided great feed back as those riders as they prepare to head to IDA Nationals. Lindsey Agaliotis, who qualified as an individual and who will also be representing her team at the First Level at Nationals, walked away with the blue ribbon and points for Team Heather.
Judge Torre Edgerly also gave feedback after every Western Horsemanship division as they prep for nationals as well. Katie Mosca and Shannon Leggett, both representing Team Rob, and Dugan McDermott of Team Rachel, all received high honors in their sections of Western Horsemanship.
There were multiple sections of Hunter Seat on the Flat.
“Some of our first place riders in the Walk-Trot-Canter divisions were Tori Burkey riding for Team Liz, Michelle Eld aboard our young school horse ‘Count’ riding in his first horse show, riding for Team Jessica, and Sara Hackney, riding for Team Rob,” said Wile. “ In the Over Fences division Nikki Napoleone, Team Marianne, walked away with first place on her own horse Leland in his first horse show. In the Novice over Fences Cami Glaff again put points on the board for Team Heather and walked away with a blue ribbon. Joy'eshia Brown, Reba Mardold, and Deb Bridges (RLAK program) had a great time showing off their skills in our Beginning Walk-Trot Division.”
Team Heather took the victory with riders Katie Ballard, Lindsey Agaliotis, Deb Bridges, Meghan Nedow and Cami Graff.
“All in all it was a great night of friendly competition and great preparation for what's to come for all of our Nationals Team riders in all three disciplines,” Wile said. “We are excited and enthusiastic as we prepare to make St. Andrews history in sending our riders in all three disciplines to the national level!”
