SAU Hunter Seat Team earns spot at Nationals

The St. Andrews University Hunter Seat team earned a spot at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Nationals this May with a second place finish at the Zone 4 Finals held at Goucher College in Maryland over the weekend.

“It is quite an accomplishment for us to have teams competing at the National Championships for all three disciplines – dressage, western and hunter seat,” said Equestrian Program Director Peggy McElveen. “It is especially nice for us in Hunter Seat and Western as we are hosting the IHSA Nationals in Raleigh.”

First place over the weekend went to host Goucher College, who will also be competing in Raleigh.

In team competition, Katie Hansen finished first in Open Over Fences and second in Open Flat. Sami Cram was first in Novice Fences and third in Intermediate Flat. Kali Cram was first in Novice Flat and second in Intermediate Fences. Shiloh Kozlowski was third in Walk/Trot and Miranda Wright was third in Walk, Trot, Canter.

On the individual side, Alie McGraw won Novice Fences with Kayla McBath earning Reserve Champion in Intermediate Flat. Kim Graves and Katie Hansen were fourth and sixth respectively in Open Fences.

The St. Andrews Equestrian Center will host an in-house competition on Friday afternoon.

The IHSA National Championships will take place May 1 – 6 in Raleigh.
