Showing Under the Stars 50 competitors strong
Laurinburg, N.C. – Close to 50 St. Andrews University riders competed in the spring semester’s first Showing Under the Stars fun competition Friday evening at the St. Andrews Equestrian Center.
The evening began with beginning horsemanship riders before moving to the over fences work of the hunter seat riders. Flat work was performed by some of the dressage riders while some of the therapeutic horses got into the fun.
“The judge was impressed with the level of competition just within our program,” said event coordinator Heather Wile. “As a St. Andrews Alumna, she’s excited for what the future holds for this program.”
This event was different from past Showing Under the Stars shows as Wile divided the competitors up into teams, with each rider earning points for the teams.
“Team C won with 52 points, with blue ribbons earned by Brittany Powell in Western Horsemanship, Courtney Nix winning her section of Walk/Trot/Canter and Logan Teeter winning her section of Horsemanship,” Wile said.
Second place went to Team A with 51 points.
“All disciplines and levels were represented on each team so it was truly a representation of our program as a whole,” Wile said.
The next Showing Under the Stars competition will take place on April 13 at the Equestrian Center. The next competition will be Saturday when St. Andrews hosts an Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Western competition.
