Showing Under the Stars Friday at SAU Equestrian Center
Laurinburg, N.C. – St. Andrews University will hold the first Showing Under the Stars event of the academic year at the Equestrian Center on Hasty Road Friday beginning at 4:30 p.m. in the covered arena.
Free and open to the public, Showing Under the Stars is an opportunity for all student riders at St. Andrews to get in the show ring in a fun, low stress environment.
“These shows are a great way for the students to show off their riding while having fun and getting involved with the program,” said Heather Wile, event manager and hunt seat riding instructor. “It’s also a great way for the program to get involved in the local community. Part of each student’s entry fee is a non-perishable food item which is donated to the food pantry here in Laurinburg.”
Additionally, those riders who don’t wear their official show clothes are being asked to wear pink in honor of breast cancer awareness month.
Riders will represent all disciplines and riding levels.
The dressage riders will be riding in a Dressage Equitation class in which they will be worked on the flat, in a group and asked to complete different movements demonstrating the unity and balance between the horse and rider.
Hunter seat riders will have the opportunity to show their flat work as well as a walk-trot-canter class where they will be judged on their equitation. Advanced riders will also be able to participated in over fences classes. There will also be a Derby class in which the riders will be asked to navigate a course of obstacles.
Western riders will also have their own Derby class where they will guide their horses through a series of poles and obstacles. They will also be judged on their position and control in horsemanship classes, both on the rail and through a pattern.
“Those interested in attending are invited to our fun competition with open arms,” said Wile.
