On Sept. 29, the St. Andrews University Ride-Like-A-Knight (RLAK) Therapeutic Riding Program received the Distinguished Community Service Award from the Monarch agency during a banquet held at Stanly Memorial Hospital in Albemarle. Monarch is an agency that supports people with disabilities across North Carolina. RLAK was nominated for the award for weekly therapeutic riding and horsemanship activities for seven children from Pence Place, a Monarch group in Rockingham. "This award is important to RLAK because of our special relationship with the Pence Place riders," said Megan Ellis, RLAK program director. "They have a huge fan club among volunteers and the riders challenge our instructors in ways that help them leave SAU more competent therapeutic riding instructors." |
