St. Andrews Students Plan Halos for Haiti Charity Dinner, Show

Laurinburg, N.C. – When a tragedy like the magnitude 7.0 earthquake that devastated Haiti on Jan. 12 happens, many will pause for a moment before moving back to their regular routine.

For St. Andrews Presbyterian College junior Leah Davison, the pause led to action. Davison has assembled a team to organize the Halos for Haiti Charity Dinner and Show scheduled for March 13.

“I wanted to find a way for the St. Andrews community to support the Haitian people in the wake of a tragedy that left an estimated 150,000 dead and another 194,000 injured,” Davison said. “We looked at the opportunities afforded to us in the community, and a dinner and variety show combination provided us with two levels of support for the cause.

The pasta buffet dinner will run from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Carol Grotnes Belk Main Room while the variety show will begin at 8 p.m. in Avinger Auditorium.

“We are really excited about the performers we have lined up for the charity show,” Davison said. “We will have the SAPC Concert and Chamber Choirs, Step 2 It Dance Studio, the St. Andrews Theatre program, members of the St. Andrews Presbyterian College Pipe Band, speakers and a variety of other talents on display.”

Tickets for the dinner and show as a package are $25 per person and $40 per couple. Tickets for the show alone are $5 for students and $10 for non-students.

“All proceeds from the charity will go directly to Hope for Haiti Now, an organization we selected because it distributes the funding to such organizations as UNICEF and the American Red Cross,” Davison said. To reserve your tickets, email davisonlm@sapc.edu or call 310-938-1670.
