Special Information for Students Considering Transferring From Schools Which Recently Lost Their Accreditation |
We have recently received numerous inquiries from students who are attending a school which has recently lost its accreditation. As an institution which will generally not hire people who hold degrees from unaccredited institutions, generally will not admit people into our graduate program whose undergraduate degree is from an unaccredited institution, and generally will not transfer credits from an unaccredited institution, we understand your fear. So, we wanted to answer some of the more common questions.
|
I earned my degree before my school lost their accreditation. Can I apply for your master’s program? Yes. If you earned your degree while the school was accredited, we see it as a degree from an accredited institution. I want to transfer. Will you take my credits? We’ll sure make heroic efforts to. If you earned a credit while the school was accredited, we see it as from an accredited school, and transferrable. There are things we won’t take – D’s, F’s, courses we wouldn’t consider “real classes” – but your school’s current status simply doesn’t enter into the decisions. Will I lose a bunch of credits? Usually not, but it depends what your major is and how differently it varies from ours. We have experienced staff who work with transfer students every day, and they’re really good at making sure that we bring in as many classes as we can. Scholarships? You bet. Our parents taught us that if you can help make a bad situation better, you have to. So, we budgeted some extra scholarship money for those students who elect to transfer. Nearly 100% of our students get some sort of scholarship. Nearly 0% get a full ride. Between academic, athletic, and other scholarships, grants, loans, and other programs, we can be surprisingly affordable, in many instances, especially for out of state students, less expensive than public universities. Can I play my sport? Maybe. Are you any good? We’ll give you a spot on the team, and a chance to show what you’re made of. Beyond that, it’s up to you. We’re NAIA proud, and we’re tough competitors. We’ll give you a shot. The rest is up to you. Can I play in the band? Maybe. See previous question. HELP! I need some place to go NOW! Okay, take a deep breath. It’s going to be okay. Decide which school you’re most interested in (you can always change your mind later). If it’s St. Andrews University in North Carolina, send an email to admissions@sapc.edu. If it’s Webber International University in Florida, send an email to admissions@webber.edu. Put “transfer from [old school name]” in the subject line so we know you need expedited service, and, if you play a sport, be sure to let us know so we can tell the coach. You’ll get an email back very soon walking you through the steps. You might want to get your unofficial transcript (the one you can print on-line will be fine) and go ahead and order your official one while you’re waiting. Should I Transfer? Don’t know. Personal decision. Cannot predict the future. But, we’re great schools (see for yourself at www.webber.edu and www.sapc.edu) and if you want to come, we’ll do everything we can to help you. But, we are first come first served, and when we’re out of space, you’re out of luck. |
