Crystal Olu-Taylor

Class of 2008

Raleigh, North Carolina

Academic Major

I am a Psychology major at St. Andrews and am also seeking a music minor. I plan to do adolescent counseling back at home in Raleigh. St. Andrews is preparing me for this by offering courses on counseling and adolescent development and behavior, with lots of hands-on experiences.

St. Andrews Faculty

Dr. Pamela Case has been my advisor since my freshman year at St. Andrews.  However, she has been more than just an advisor to me.  She has been a professor for many of the psychology courses that I have taken, teaching me much of the information needed for a psychology major, as well as for after my college career.  She has helped me through my troubles, worries, concerns, and hardships dealing with college and life.  She has been a friend…someone to talk to whether it is about school, family, or friends.  She has helped guide my on my journey through college, and I am thankful for Professor Case.

Extracurricular Activities

On campus I am a member of the Christian Student Union and Crusades for Christ. I am also the president for the Black Student Union organization. I have been a member of the women’s soccer team for my four years here, and also sing in the school's Choir. I am a work study student in the Financial Planning Office, and I also help out the women’s basketball team with keeping stats during their games.

Unique Experience

Due to a life-threatening illness, I had to take time off from school at St. Andrews.  This threw me off, and I didn’t know how I would adjust if I were to return to school. I didn’t even know if I could finish school. However, when I did return to St. Andrews, I saw many new faces and was intimidated by the appearance of a totally different school. As I began to get into the swing of things, old memories came back to me and I remembered how much this school had meant to me. St. Andrews has helped get me back on my feet, and I feel confident to achieve my goals in life.

Why St. Andrews?

At St. Andrews, there are many activities to be a part of whether it be being involved with a sport, organization, committee, or club or all at the same time!  You are bound to fit in somewhere at St. Andrews, as the people at the college are very kind, loving, positive and welcoming.  As I have found, it is much easier to learn in a positive environment; one such as St. Andrews.

A home game. I'm number 18.
