Career Goals

I am completing a double major and will graduate with a B.S. in Biology and a B.A.in Chemistry.  My career goals include biological research and becoming a professional musician.  I think St. Andrews has given me the knowledge and hands-on experiences to be successful in biological research and has allowed me to open up to the musician part of me.

Meaningful Experience

Last year, my friends and I lost a dear friend here at school. He was two weeks away from graduating and died suddenly. Two days later, the entire school got together at the bell tower and held a service in his memory. My friends and I were bawling, but when we looked up, the professors, the dean and all the students and faculty had that same look on their face. What I took from this event was that St. Andrews is such a strong community that, even in such a tragedy, we were one community:  all there for each other and equally affected by his departure.

Summer Plans

I plan to move to Nashville because the mainstream country band I’m in is getting signed and we are going to start touring.  Also, I am talking to an agricultural research firm that wants to give me an internship either in New Jersey or Georgia with working on developing new environmentally friendly pesticides.  I will eventually pursue graduate school.

Why St. Andrews?

St. Andrews will change your life.  I have had more chances to “get my monies worth” as my dad puts it, with club sports and activities that go far beyond a degree or a transcript.  There is no other place that you can hang out with the guys on Saturday night and see a professor walk in and the mood stay the same.

I almost left my sophomore year.  I went to visit another college the week before the end of the semester here at St. Andrews and the whole time I was there I caught myself comparing it to St. Andrews and even with all its bells and whistles, it never came close to adding up.  I came back to St. Andrews with a new found admiration for the school and even though I had even signed to leave and withdraw, they looked right at me, tore the papers up and said “Welcome back, now do something that’s worth your time!”

St. Andrews hired a hypnotist for entertainment: that is me and  another student hypnotized! We  were doing all sorts of crazy things!.
